ocr: The National Guard and defense forces were disbanded tollowing the 1989 US invasion and were replaced by a police force laown as the Fnerra Piblica- the Public Force. Panama is now allied militarily to the USA. The main lefense issue is how to take over the policing of the Canal Zone.
